More's Utopia
- Classless society, because everyone works, everyone is equal.
- Everyone works for 6 hours a day at whatever you are best at.
- There are elected officials, but they represent the people, not the elite.
- The great sin: PRIDE. More's Utopia is set up to discourage or banish the sin of pride.
- People's clothes are basically the same, very simple, designed for utility
- No hereditary distinctions
- People change houses every 10 years, so that property can't become a source of pride.
- Luxury for some comes at the price of poverty for others. Pride fuels this. So, pride must be fought against.
- Agricultural community
- Everyone learns farm labour
- Everyone works on the farm for at least 2 years. Some will choose to continue there.
- The Good Life
- Since everyone is free from striving to be economically better than others, people can explore the best that humanity has to offer.
- Great pleasure in physical things - eating, drinking, sex.
- Life is more than the physical: arts, philosophy, and religion thrive.
- Peace and Security
- Crime is dealt with through education
