The JACO Chronicle:

Ahh! Con season! A chance to see friends, delve deep into fandom, and spend way too much money!

JACON 2001 was a huge success, with over 1,100 attendees (more than doubling the attendence at JACON 2000)! It was great to see everyone come out and have a great time! And guess what? We're just crazy enough to do it again! JACON 2002 will be May 31-June 2, so mark your calendars and beg the boss for a couple days off! Some of the JACO crew will also be at Dragon*Con 2001, hosting an anime viewing room! So if you're going to Dragon*Con, stop by and say hi! And watch a little anime...the stuff's good for ya'! Expect a large JACO attendence at AWA this year, too. We just can't get enough of them cons!

School starts up soon, and you know what that means! Yep, another excuse for JACO to throw a party! The Back-To-School Bash will be on August 25th. There'll be anime screenings, a cosplay contest, a trivia challenge, a Project Justice tournament, plus food, drink, and giveaways! For more info, check out the main page!

The 10th anniversary of Project JACO will be this summer, so we want everyone to submit something-whether it's an article, review, fan art, or whatever, you'll want to be immortalized in this soon-to-be collector's item (don't say I didn't warn you)!

Several new shows have started their runs at the programming meetings, so check our the schedule and links sections, too.

Well, that's it for now. See you in the funnies...

Oh, wow! Well, it's been a while. A lot has happened since June of last year...let's see if we can't catch everything up.

The most notable event since the last Chronicle listing is JACON 2000, JACO's first anime convention! It was a big success, with over 500 attendees! We had lots of fun, watched a ton of anime, and best of all, we're planning to do it all over again. JACON 2001 is already shaping up to be bigger and better, with a little more of everything! So join us on May 11-13 for Orlando's great anime experience! Visit www.jacon.org for more info! Oh, and we're always looking for volunteers!

As many of you know, 2000 was a big year for anime. Besides the sea of stuff released on video and DVD from all our favorite companies, we were besieged on all sides on US TV! Cartoon Network had a hit on their hands with Gundam Wing, and are following suit with Outlaw Star, Tenchi Muyo, and Blue Sub 06. In addition to Pokemon and Digimon, Fox released a rather severely edited version of Escaflowne (which was canceled), and has picked up rights to Slayers. The WB has a hit on their hands with Cardcaptors (another really edited version of Cardcaptor Sakura). The best part of that is the ability to find affordable CCS toys at Wal-mart (stuffed Kero-chans...Yeah!). Princess Mononoke was released in US Theaters, and was received very well (it was on DVDExpress.com's Top Five list for a couple weeks...). Let's hope 2001 will yield more anime for American Otaku...perhaps Spriggan, Laputa, and...the Escaflowne Movie in theaters??

JACO was invited to help host an anime room at Megacon 2001 this past weekend (March 3-5) by local club Anime Sushi. It was a big hit! Shows that went over especially well include Inu-Yasha, Legend of Basara, Big-O, FLCL (Furi Kuri), Jubei-chan, Angel Sanctuary, and many others! The costume contest (Anime Sushi's second annual) took us all by surprise with 71 entries!! Congraulations to Joe Torres, the Best of Show winner for his Di Gi Charat Dejiko costume, nyo! All in all, it was a blast! I certainly had a ton of fun!

Anime Express in Daytona is coming up soon! Check out the Anime Turnpike (www.anipike.com) Convention schedule for details.

Deadline for the Spring issue of Project JACO is March 20th, so get those reviews, articles, fanart, and other submissions together and send them off to our editor-in-chief, Ken Nabbe at nabbe@cfl.rr.com.

Well, everything else in the club is going great! Tad Simmons is the new club librarian (he has our sympathies). We'd like to thank Erik for doing a great job this last year. Casey Hollis is our new JACON Chairman, and Jason Sadeghi is our Gaming Department Head. I'm sure everyone will do great in their new positions!

That's all for now. Hopefully, I'll be speaking to everyone again BEFORE this time next year. See you at the meetings, or JACON 2001!

It's been a while. We've finally hashed out the feature schedulefor the next half year or so. Check out the schedule link to theleft if you're interested. The club is still in the process of acquiringeven more material for the library, so as soon as things appear to settledown, we'll have a new library listing to be distributed to Members. We're also working on some new Anime Soundtrack Primers for Extended andLifetime members.

There have been many questions as to JACO's participation in MegaConthis year. The simple answer is, we're not. Never fear, though,as we're planning something much bigger for later in the year. Keepyour calendars clear for the weekend of September 8-10 and stay tuned formore information.

JACO has returned from its "field trip" to AWA 4. According tothose in the know, we had the largest group attendance at this year's con. Between club members and friends, we had around 14 people in costume alone! Despite some misunderstandings with those running the cosplay and a fewother problems that arose, the weekend was enjoyable.

We hope to have a photo page from the con up and running soon, so staytuned! :)

It looks like JACO will be helping AWA with the distribution of musicvideo tapes again this year. As soon as the situation solidifies, I'll post information regarding this.

The Back to School Anime Fest '98 was a huge success, generating oneof the largest crowds we've ever had! The auditorium (CommunicationsBuilding RM 101) was perfect for our needs. In fact, the room wasso good we are thinking of moving there for our regular programming meetingsas well. Check back later to find out if it goes through.
