Pride   

Psalm 10:4 In his pride the wicked does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.

Pride: To boastfully and joyously indulge (oneself) in a feeling of pleasure or satisfaction. A cause or source of pleasure or satisfaction. Satisfaction taken in an achievement, possession, or association.

Pride of life is taking pleasure in life (not in the Lord God Almighty) and being satisfied with it. It is associated with happily and joyously partaking in earthy pleasures.

Pride of life is associated with a lust for life. It is an intense eagerness to meet an overwhelming desire or craving for power or self-recognition.

Those who are prideful often base their existence on selfish ambition and self-worth. Such people have an eager or strong desire to achieve something, such as fame or power which brings glory to themselves and not God.

The eagerness to possess or enjoy associated with pride is often referred to as the "lust of gain".

Pride is an inward sin which leads to the falling away from God. God sends warnings to us about being filled with pride:

Job 33:14-18 For God does speak--now one way, now another-- though man may not perceive it. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men as they slumber in their beds, he may speak in their ears and terrify them with warnings, to turn man from wrongdoing and keep him from pride, to preserve his soul from the pit, his life from perishing by the sword.

Isaiah 13:11 I will punish the world for its evil, the wicked for their sins. I will put an end to the arrogance of the haughty and will humble the pride of the ruthless.

Ezekiel 28:2 "Son of man, say to the ruler of Tyre, `This is what the Sovereign LORD says: "`In the pride of your heart you say, "I am a god; I sit on the throne of a god in the heart of the seas." But you are a man and not a god, though you think you are as wise as a god.

The only thing that pride brings is disgrace.

Proverbs 11:2 When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.

If you struggle with pride (or any other sin) please go to God in prayer right now. Pray to God asking Him to be the center of your life, and for the desire to seek His will before your own. Pray that God will direct you to a life pleasing to Him, not just yourself. God can give you victory over pride and any other sin.
