About the Program
The
Burnett Honors College (TBHC) is pleased to announce the Summer 2004
inauguration of The President’s Scholars Program. This scholarship
program was initiated by UCF President John C. Hitt to provide an Honors
study abroad experience to the highest achieving Honors students at
UCF. All student travel, housing, and excursion costs will be paid by
this scholarship program (May 15 through June 20, 2004). 
TBHC
will select on a competitive basis up to 20 President’s Scholars for
participation in the Honors Summer Study Abroad Program in Bergamo,
Italy. Eligible candidates must be Honors students in good standing
who entered UCF prior to Fall 2003 and will not graduate prior to Spring
2005. Qualified students must also have a minimum overall UCF GPA of
3.8. Applicants should submit the following materials to Dr. Alvin Wang,
BHC room 103, no later than 5 pm on January 21, 2005:
1)
A cover letter indicating the student's interest in applying to this
program. This letter should also include a statement indicating that
upon return from the study abroad program the student will submit
a 500-word essay about his/her experiences to TBHC.
2)
A degree audit including Fall 2003 grades.
3)
A 500-word essay describing the applicant’s goals for study abroad.
Students should describe how study abroad will help them achieve academic,
career, and personal goals.
4)
A completed and signed application form.
5)
Two letters of recommendation from UCF faculty familiar with the student’s
work.
All
qualified students will be interviewed prior to the final selection
of the 2004 President’s Scholars.
As
a condition of choosing to become a President’s Scholar, students
must agree to the following:
1)
Register for ITT 4932H (Survey of
Italian Literature) and EUH 3930H
(History of Modern Italy) for Summer C; the language of instruction
for both courses is English). Please note that tuition costs
and UCF student fees are not covered by this scholarship award.
2)
Make their own arrangements to meet at Orlando International
Airport to travel as a group to Milan, Italy.
3)
Complete all necessary paperwork required by the Office of International
Studies necessary for travel abroad.
4)
Attend the orientation sessions on UCF’s main campus on April
24/25.
