History

Since 1998, an organization called H.E.L.P. (Helping Every Little Person) has provided high school and collegiate students the opportunity to work towards bringing love and dedicated friendship to countless children of inner-city families and underprivileged homes. Jennifer Lostumbo established H.E.L.P. during her sophomore year at Western High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Shortly thereafter, the organization spread to five high schools throughout South Florida. Then, in January of 2002, Lostumbo's never-ending devotion to helping underprivileged children led her to begin H.E.L.P. at Florida State University.

By the beginning of the 2003 school year, H.E.L.P. gathered enough support to adopt three subsidized preschools in the Tallahassee area (Innovation Center, Hargrett Kiddie Kollege, and Miracle Years II) and set up trips to each of them once a month. These monthly trips each operate under a different theme and include various fun-filled activities that promote learning and success. In addition to the preschool program, H.E.L.P. has also begun a foster home program in conjunction with an organization called Good News Outreach. In this program, selected members visit the foster homes several times a month as mentors to the troubled youths and offer the children living there a chance to interact with and learn from positive community role models.

H.E.L.P.'s vision was later spread to Central Florida. UCF started its very own H.E.L.P. program and now all the members of H.E.L.P. are becoming more involved with children in the Orlando area.

H.E.L.P. was started with the intentions of adopting subsidized preschools in the hopes of improving the lives of less fortunate children. This is where you come in. In order for H.E.L.P. to continue its mission and continue expanding across the nation we need your "help." We are always looking for new members to aid us in our community service efforts and would love for anyone who shares our goal of enhancing these children's lives to join us.
