Welcome to the official Future Technical Communicators Web site. This Web site provides technical communicators at the University of Central Florida with helpful information about technical writing and upcoming technical writing workshops. FTC members are given the opportunity to attend both FTC and STC meetings as well the annual international STC Conference.

Saturday workshops are held by current technical writing students, STC members and other industry professionals. The goal of these one and a half hour sessions is to help attendees become more familiar with the software and procedures essential to technical writing professionals.

This Web site also provides information about opportunities available to UCF's Technical Writing majors, including the prestigious Melissa Pellegrin Memorial Scholarship and the STC-FTC Mentor Program.

Have a question? For more information about FTC, the mentoring program, upcoming events and activities, or any other technical writing related inquiries, Send an e-mail to the Future Technical Communicators.

FTC News

  • This is a reminder that our next FTC Workshop will be held THIS Saturday 11/19 from 12 Noon - 1:30 PM in the Technical Writing Lab. The workshop, entitled "Advanced Microsoft Word: Tips and Tricks for Dealing with Large Documents" will be presented by FTC's Immediate Past President, Jen Selix. Jen is a recent graduate of the technical writing program at UCF and currently works as a technical writer at NBC-Universal. She is a very charismatic speaker who is truly a wealth of knowledge.

This workshop is designed as a follow up to our first workshop, Microsoft Word Styles. To keep with the pacing of Tech Doc 1 and Tech Doc 2, back in September you set up your template and prepared to create your document. By now, you are probably dealing with a large document that is ready for production. Microsoft Word is finicky and many uncontrolled documents can become corrupt very quickly. Want to learn how to keep the integrity of your document while maintaining your sanity? Then come to the FTC workshop this Saturday! Discover the secrets to preparing your document for a smooth transition to PDF format, things you should know when dealing with print shops, and much much more! Even if you are not an Editor in either Tech Doc Class right now, these are essential skills to have in the real office setting. We hope to see you this Saturday in the Technical Writing Lab. If you are interested, please RSVP to this email ucf.ftc@gmail.com .
  • The next Orlando Chapter STC Meeting will be Tues., Dec. 13 and the topic will be Online Learning Technologies featuring Dan Heath. Location: Winter Park Civic Center For more Information visit, http://www.stc-orlando.org/default.asp
