Student Budget

Estimated student budgets for 2000-2001 have been developed as a guide to help students anticipate their costs at UCF. Some students will spend more than the typical amounts, others less, depending on individual lifestyles and circumstances. A student's eligibility for financial aid, however, will not be based on individual preferences and spending habits, but on the standard budget allowances.

UCF's student budget includes tuition & fees, books & supplies, room & board, personal expenses, and transportation costs. The total 9 month budget (fall & spring semesters) for the UCF 2000-2001 school year is listed in the table below. (If attending summer school the budget will increase for the added semester.) UCF has estimated the total budget for each of these dependent on your living arrangements, either off campus (not with parents), on campus, or living with parents.

2000-2001 Student Budget

Student budget allowances are used only to determine the estimated expenses that will be experienced during the enrollment period. Actual costs will vary depending on particular lifestyles. Costs are based on full-time enrollment for Fall 2000 and Spring 2001 and may be adjusted.

How a Student's Financial Need is Determined

Financial need is determined using the financial information you and your family supply when you complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the Renewal FAFSA, FAFSA on the Web, or FAFSA Express.

The information you provide on the FAFSA is processed using formulas, established by the U.S. Congress, that calculate your Expected Family Contribution (EFC), the amount you and your family are expected to contribute toward your educational costs.

To determine your financial need, your expected family contribution (EFC) is subtracted from the cost of attendance:

Financial Need = Cost of Attendance - Expected Family Contribution (EFC)

Your EFC is located on your Student Aid Report (SAR) which the federal processor sends as an acknowledgement that the application was processed. The federal processor also electronically transmits the analysis of the data directly to UCF and any other school you specified on the FAFSA.
