Honors in the Major In the College of Education
- The Honors in the Major (HIM) Program is coordinated
by the Honors College and a committee within the College of Education.
- HIM is designed to encourage the best junior and senior students
to undertake original and independent work in their major field.
- Students design an Honors thesis or project while working in
close conjunction with a faculty mentor from the student's major program or
department who serves as the Thesis Committee Chair, and a small committee.
It is the student's responsibilities to identify a faculty mentor and initiate
process.
- Work in this program is usually begun during the junior or
senior year.
- Benefits of the HIM Program for students include graduating
with Honors in the Major on your transcript, receiving the Honors Medallion
, which is worn with the academic regalia at Commencement, the chance to
work closely with a faculty mentor and prepare for later research and scholarly
endeavors. Students accepted into the HIM Program are eligible to apply
for annual scholarship awards.
