By the establishment of a Consortium for the Social Responsibility and Character in Education, UCF intends to fulfill the rising need for increased emphasis on social responsibility, character  development and law-related education (LRE) for new and experienced teachers. In addition to its training of new teachers, the Consortium will provide in-service training to practicing teachers through workshops, lectures, and summer or evening courses in conjunction with program activities of the UCF Academy for Teaching, Learning, and Leadership. Recognizing the essential role played by parents and communities in the learning process, the Consortium will offer specialized training opportunities geared to the needs of this vital audience.
OUR PURPOSES

Serve as a hub for area, state, national, and international partnership for improving the effectiveness of education and networking in social responsibility and character in education.

  1. In conjunction with the UCF Academy--that has, within its primary mission, the formation of educational networks and partnerships--the Consortium works to facilitate the effective utilization of resources and information.

The consortium builds upon existing partnerships, such as the UCF Orlando Science Center, the Professional Development School Network, the Celebration Professional Development School, the Florida Law Related Education Association and the Character Education Partnership.

Networks will include the service area for UCF and other state, national, and international institutions.

  2. Promote excellence by encouraging research and evaluation to identify and reflect the best practices in character education and LRE.

The Consortium will stimulate research in the area of social responsibility, character and law related education through sponsored studies, graduate fellowships, and workshops.

  3. The Consortium will serve as a clearinghouse of ideas, information, and materials, concentrating on the cutting-edge of innovation and efficiency. (Please check our page soliciting Research Proposals)

  4. Encourage life-long learning with a focus on improving the development of social responsibility and character in education.

  5. The Consortium will address education at all levels and reflect the wide variety of settings in which education occurs.  The Consortium will address pre-school through post-secondary education and will be concerned with all who facilitate the growth and development of others through education.
