Mind Map
Mind
Map:
A mind map
is a creative pattern of connected ideas. It is similar
to a sentence diagram, a road map, or a blueprint
which consists of a central word or concept, around
the central word there are 5 to 10 main ideas that
relate to that word.?For each of those child words,
there are about 5 to 10 main ideas that relate to
each of those words. Mind Map is based on the logic
of association, not the logic of time
Rationale:
According to the
brain-based research, the brain works primarily with
key concepts
in an interlinked and integrated manner. Key words,
therefore, are essential for memory recall, forging
new associations and recall of other experiences or
sensations. Taking notes, thinking of new ideas and
summarizing information is best done using association
of keywords, and not in a linear, written form. Mind
map is constructed as same as the brain works.
Applications
in Classroom:
Topic: what features
of multimedia contributes to effective learning.
Strategies:
- Start with a
colored image in the center: I will ask students
start from the center with the main idea, multimedia,
and branch out as dictated by the individual ideas
and general form of the theme.?
- Use images throughout
the Mind Map: An old saying says, “Pictures
worth a thousand words? The students are to use
color, form, line, dimension, texture, visual
rhythm and especially imagination to create branches
that hold key subtopics. Images are often more
evocative than words, more precise and potent
in triggering a wide range of associations, thereby
enhancing creative thinking and memory. The use
of color is also important for it can enhance
memory, delight the eye and stimulate the right
cortical processes. (Use three or more colors
per central image).
- Add details to
the branches: After the branches are made, the
students add related information to each of branch
again using images and words. At this point, words
should be printed: Printed words are much easier
to be recognized.?
- Words should
be in 'units' one word per line, allowing each
word to have free hooks and giving more freedom
and flexibility.
- Personalize the
Mind Map: the students are free to use their creativity
and imagination to personalize their mind maps.
- After their mind maps are completed, I will ask
them to evaluate their won mind map based on the
following rubric.

the evaluation, they can revise their mind maps.
Goals
of Education:
The
mind map technique can help students develop their
ability to think clearly, to use intellectual reasoning
to solve problems and to make rational decisions.
(Cognitive Processors). The philosophical theory for
mind map is constructivism. As constructivists argue,
knowledge is physically and symbolically constructed
by learners who are involved in active learning and
making their own representation of action. The use
of Mind Map help the students construct their own
knowledge based on the received instruction and information.
Another philosophy that emphases this approach is
progressivism. According to progressivist thought,
the skills and tools of learning include problem-solving
methods and scientific inquiry; in addition, learning
experiences should include cooperative behaviors and
self-discipline. Through these skills and experiences
the school can transmit the culture of society while
it prepares the students for a changing world. Progressivism
placed heavy emphasis on how to think, not what to
think.
