January 25, 1996

Persons present: John Bober-BCC, Lucy Morse-CFCHE, Rusty Okoneiwski-CFCHE, John Scarpino-SCC, Travis Spaulding-UCF, Barbara Truman-CFCHE

Lytle opened meeting at 9:40 am. Morse gave an update on the project. The next workshop by the Faculty Development Committee will a workshop II, which will be held February 29, from 1-4pm in building 3, room 111 on the West Campus of Valencia. CEU credits may be retroactive. On March 21, there will be a repeat of workshop I at Daytona Beach Community College. Details will follow. Morse said the video of workshop I is being edited and will have CEU's for people who view it with moderator. Brochures are being made for workshops to come.

Rusty spoke of the upcoming Quality in Distance Education teleconferences with the University of Wisconsin. The information will be posted on the homepage.

Morse described plans for the Learner Support Workshop and distributed a handout. Sprint will demonstrate full motion two-way video and two-way audio with a guest speaker. Seventy is our absolute limit (invitees). The Steering committee is invited and their invites are not transferable. Everyone on the Learner Support advisory committee is invited plus eight people in key areas from all the colleges.

Lydia Gardner, Sprint Workshop Coordinator, wants persons name, school, title, and addresses turned in by February 2nd. Invitees include experts in various areas: library, financial aid, perhaps testing area. The published report budget for the workshop findings is $1000.00. This information can also be distributed on disk and made available on the webpage. Concerning attendees, it was suggested that each department head choose who should attend the workshop. Scarpino said he had a meeting with departments and found out their concerns. See handout.

Kirkwood community college was noted as using distance ed for some time. It would be helpful to find out issues that have been addressed. Lytle said he would find someone from Kirkwood to contact.

Members discussed whether Sprint would be amenable to hosting conference calls for host expert break out sessions at a distance. The time limit would be set at 20 minutes. Perhaps others can call in and listen during break out sessions. Perhaps during main session we can pull in someone like Michael Moore from Penn State.

Members discussed how the workshop would run. Who will facilitate each break out? Morse said that will be decided on February 2nd after members have brought back their list of delegates.

The next meeting will be Tuesday, February 20, from 9:30-11:30 am in Room 100 of the UCF Research Pavilion. The meeting adjourned 10:50 am.
