Meeting Notes
Valencia Community College - East
April 14, 1996

Persons present: Steve Sorg-CFCHE, Dennis Weeks-VCC-East, Bobbi Lytle-SCC, Paul Blais-VCC-West, Bill Patterson-CFCHE, John Bober-VCC, Barbara Truman-CFCHE, Pat Fleming-CFCC, Terry Furlow-L-SCC, Terry Longorto-L-SCC

Patterson opened the meeting at 1:15 pm and distributed an agenda, objectives, and copies of the faculty technology profiles. He told about his Microsoft Composer Series teachers guide which will be published in six weeks.

Patterson said the faculty technology profiles (FTPs) have six areas of interest. The goal is to establish areas of applied technology and prioritizing. He discussed the UCF College of Education's faculty incentive program where teachers are rewarded if they teach students a program that then becomes a product. Patterson's goal is to have an FTP for every faculty member by next year. He says there tends to be a poor concept among administrators of how rapidly change occurs. Patterson stressed the importance of personal, personal, personal attention. He again asked members to prepare materials from colleges for deliverables. Any summaries that can be done will be useful.

Patterson then discussed the results of the Faculty Development Survey data. He hopes to have Pat Moskal, Barbara Martin or Neill Foshee at the next meeting to explain results in detail. Fleming would like to know how these three feel the data should be presented to administrators. He said that faculty would like to see how their contributions makes a difference. Seminole is continuing to use the survey with some modification.

Blais discussed the survey implications at Valencia. Members reviewed the deliveries of distance learning. Faculty were interested in 2-way video and 2-way audio, then telecourses and lastly video. The suggestion was made to get highlights of the results in narrative form.

Members discussed the possibilities of having a conference/event with an uplink to various sites. Airing video segments with the real-live heroes present was again suggested. Patterson suggested having monthly conferencing after the grant ends.

Patterson asked Sorg about the history of CFCHE. Sorg said it began in 1989, but was dormant for a couple of years. The math and professional development committees continued meeting. Sorg told of the proposals that were submitted in the Consortium's name with the hope of funding continuanc. Sorg said it was the hope of our grant to institutionalize distance learning at all the colleges.

Fleming suggested marketing the products of project: the video course, workshop materials, newsletters etc. He said marketing the benefits of the grant was the only thing missing. Blais said that time is running out and Marlene is still catching up from joining the grant so late.

Members then took a tour of Valencia's facilities.

The next meeting will be May 6th at 1:00 pm at Seminole Community College.
