Pat Moskal opened the meeting at 2:15 pm and committee members introduced themselves. Lucy Morse introduced two special guests Linda Harris and Gwen McLin who were visiting for a site inspection from Tallahassee.
Morse said that the instructional technologists would get together by October 10th and that Bill Patterson has a target launch date for his first workshop for November 1st.
Committee members then discussed the delivery options for the faculty development workshop(s). It was agreed that workshops should be open to all faculty, but that attendance should be required for the instructional technologists. Members suggested that the workshop be done live first with at least one remote sight. The electronic classroom of UCF's OIR could provide one way video and two way audio with a phone bridge. Bill Patterson would coordinate this. McBrayer also said he could use his new equipment in Engineering for using two way video and two way audio. It was recommended that the workshops be videotaped for those who could not attend.
Moskal asked about the target audience of the workshops. The audience would depend upon the content. Three workshops for three levels are proposed. The first, is how to design a distance education course. The second is for organizational issues and the third is for advanced issues.
The third workshop is advanced and the design of the workshop depends upon the type of delivery used. The first and second workshops stand alone, but the third requires the first workshop as a prerequisite. Russ Adkins stressed the importance of making the first workshop face to face among faculty for the personal interaction. Morse clarified that the faculty development component is independent, that the Survey Course deals with showing people what technologies are.
Moskal then distributed a handout concerning the three institution's responses to the needs assessment. He asked members to discuss their reactions to the instrument and comment on their collect of the data. Members said that faculty didn't like the length and questioned the validity of the answers after answering so many questions. Timing was important too because of the summer semester.
Moskal passed out three proposed surveys that are parts of the whole survey instrument. Committee members made specific recommendations regarding question locations and phrasing. Moskal tracked these changes and recorded them on his master copy. Gary Orwig asked for clarification for how the survey would be used and what the goal of the instrument was. Moskal said the survey was a needs assessment and a deliverable on the grant for this advisory committee. Moskal requested that all members review the three proposed surveys and send their comments to him by September 7th.
The next meeting will be held Tuesday, September 19th at 2:00 pm in room 100 of the UCF Research Pavillion.
