Butokukan

The Butokukan Club

The Club has been on campus for over 20 years. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!  We have co-ed beginner classes starting at the beginning of each semester: Fall, Spring and Summer. Teaching Tae Kwon Do, Aikido, American Freestyle Karate & Self-Defense. We have five trained belt instructors.

What is the Butokukan Club at UCF?

Butokukan is roughly translated as, "Institute of Martial Value." Its significance encourages moral development through both physical and mental exercises in order to create not only better martial artists but also better leaders in society. Our dojo teaches the martial arts of Korean Moo Duk Kwan style Tae Kwon Do and Japanese Aikido. We are also a social club where one can make many new friends.

Why should I train in martial arts of all things?

Getting involved with the Butokukan club at UCF during ones college career is incredibly beneficial! Here are a few reasons that are highlighted by our instructors:

  • An opportunity to get in better physical shape. Our instructors are very experienced and can help students achieve better flexibility, stamina, and physique.
  • Our classes are held regularly in the evening, 6-8:00, when classes are done for the day. Going to class and working out is a great way to break up studying time and get the blood flowing.
  • We have been on campus for 20 years - the oldest martial arts organization on campus. Our staying power is a testament to our instructors experience and passion for teaching.
  • Our instructors were taught for free so now they teach for free. We also buy uniforms and gear in bulk and are able to pass the savings on to you. There are no contracts to sign.

The most obvious reason, self-defense! How do I start?

Beginner classes start during the first few weeks of the semester. We will cut off the introduction of new students so that we are able to teach the students (white belts) without having to go back and explain every detail. Remember to not wear shorts or jeans to practice and remove all jewelry beforehand.
