Good and Bad Websites
Assignment 2

Bad Websites

Brighthouse: Brighthouse This sight is horrible for new customers trying to subscribe for service. When you click on the "order now" link it takes you to another interactive page and automatically starts you out with 250 channels and you can't change this. This is frustrating because if you want basic cable you have to then look up the number and call to specify this service. Also many times while trying to subscribe online it will freeze and you have to start over again. This is one of the most annoying sites I have ever been to.

Cosmicben's Record Review: Cosmicben's This website's first problem is that its background is a bright green which is just overwhelming and can't be looked at for more than a minute. The second thing is that there are too many links so all you see is blue. Lastly, the information on this site is not well organized at all. It looks more like a chat sight than a record review. I was so overwhelmed I didn't even try to see what was on the page.

Stevens Point Area Convention & Visitors Bureau: Stevens Point This page had no search button for quick lookup and had a site counter in the middle of the page instead of at the bottom. The counter in the middle made it look tacky and gets more attention because it is bothersome there than the information on the page.

New York Times: New York Times This site has good qualities such as search and feedback buttons but is crammed with too much information for a homepage. I wasn't sure where a good place was to start because everything was a different subject but wasn't defined clearly enough to give sense to the page.

Career Builder: Career Builder This site is another annoying one. Of the several job sites I have been to I like this one the least. When you search for jobs many of them are irrelevant, work at home jobs that are in front of the jobs you are really looking for. It discourages you from looking at jobs because you have to get to the second page or so to find what you actually searched for. Besides this when you find a job you want to apply for it asks you to sign in. Following what it has asked, you sign in and then it goes back to the search page and you have to sign in and search for the job again.

Omega Dawn: Omega Dawn First of all there is no enter button for the site so you must guess if the page is ready or not. Secondly, there is a section that looks like a spreadsheet with some links and non links and one labeled news you can't see unless you put your nose to the screen. This also occurs when you click on the "work" link. The page itself is a small space with only two other links and no clear way of knowing what the site is for.

British Association for Accident and Emergency Medicine: BAEM This website is has a flaw the is most crucial to any user. There is no search button! There is also too much on one page. The history of this association could have been done on another page so as not to make this one look long. There are somethings on this homepage that could have been put ion with links and not take up room.

The Home Page of Peter Pan: Peter Pan This webpage had many things wrong with it. The first thing I noticed was the quote at the top is done in a similiar green color to that of the background making it hard to see. Under this is a red blinking update link. After this comes the many paragraphs with small writing that goes on forever. I don't think I could have read about a quarter of it before I would be lost. Under all this writing are about twenty or so links in bright pink that just clutter the site more. The homepage itself is equal to that of two making it feel like too much information is being thrown at you.

Michael's Website: Michael This site is just horrible. The background is in contrast with the picture making it unsitely. The font color is light blue and hard to read. The picture intrudes on the words and breaks the concentration of reading. There is also suppose to be audio in the background but there isn't and there are audio buttons but they don't work either.

CIS30 Website:CIS30 There are not major problems with this one. I chose it simply because the background is bright pink with a black font. I found that after trying to read this for a few seconds my eyes began to hurt because of the chosen colors and font which is too small. The pink overshadows the text. This would have been better in a bigger font.

Good Websites

Petfinder: Petfinder This website is very functional. It allows you to search for a pet by many different criteria and also has many links relevant to the site. In the results it summarizes everything you would want to know such as: location, breed, age, name, picture, and their temperment.

Yahoo!: Yahoo! Another wonderful functional website. The search criteria that this site produces is relevant to the search terms and doesn't make you go through twenty websites to find exactly what you are looking for. Besides doing searches it is also quick and easy to look for images or phone numbers. The links to other parts of the site are represented with pictures making them easy to recognize.

Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians: CAEP A website for The Canadian Journal of Emergency Medicine. My favorite feature is the button that returns you to the top instead of having to scroll up again. It contains updates, member registry, abstracts of up-to-date news and a bar on the left that will help navigate throughout the site. It's one pitfall is that the back button is broken.

Mark's Record Review's: Mark Prindle This site is well layed out with a white background and appealing logo. The page is also broken into sections with clear headings so you know what you are looking at.

Wisconsin Dells: Dells Wisdells has pleasing pictures that appeal to the family type. There is a section with upcoming events so you don't have to search and there is a feedback button. The writing is just enough so that you don't get lost or bored.

University of Wisconsin: University of Wisconsin This site I wasn't surprised was good since it was an education site. It contained the all important search button and had relevant links located at the top for quick use. It also has gold and black but used sparingly to not take away from the information but enhance it.

Disney: Disney The site has bright colors but isn't taken over by them which is good for children to use the site. Besides being used by children it also has relevant information for parents about disney. It has a search and feedback button.

Cartoon Network: Cartoon Network I haven't seen this on any other site- a clear button for making it your homepage! I didn't have to go searching for it was right at the top. The charcters used are some of the most popular which is good for immediately drawing in their target audience of children. The buttons to navigate through the site are in bright colors and simply marked so that children can locate them on their own.

Wall Street Journal: Wall Street Journal In contrast to the New York Times site, this site is not crammed with so much information that it overwhelms you. It is clearly layed out and has information for other parts of the world that can be accessed by one button. All advertisements or links are relevant to this site.

Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation: Susan G. Komen A site well suited for women. The color is soft purple that is pleasing to the eyes with some pink that highlights important information. The site also contains a search button, sitemap, and a link to switch to Spanish. All topics are clearly divided.
