    Curriculum Development:

    New Courses Developed and Taught:

    1) EEL 5245: Power Electronics I. This course covers the Principles of Power Electronics and was taught for the first time in the Spring Semester in 1993. Major Topics: Rectifier circuits, magnetic circuits and transformers, PWM and resonant converters.

    2) EEL 6246: Power Electronics II, 3 Credit Hours. This course covers the advanced topics in power electronics. It was taught for the first time in the Fall 1993.

    New Courses Developed and to be Taught:

    3) EEL 6938: Active Network Analysis. This course covers the analysis of active amplifier feedback theory.

    4) EEL 5937: Dynamics and Control of Power Converters. The development of this course is sponsored by a grant from the Florida Space Grant Consortium. It will cover the small signal modeling and control of high frequency dc-to-dc converters. Controller design and Stability issues will be discussed. Students will learn how to design a closed-loop Controller for resonant converters.

    Modified Course: EEL 4309, EEL 3307.

    Laboratory Manuals Development:

    1) Prepared a Laboratory Manuals for EEL 4309 (Electronics II). Completed in Summer 1994 and currently being used in the course. Co-authors: Drs. Batarseh, Kasparis and Yuan.

    2) Prepared a Laboratory Manuals for EEL 3307 (Electronics I). Co-authors: Drs. Batarseh, Kasparis and Yuan.

    Students Manuals Development:

    1) Prepared a manual entitled A Student Guide To PSPICE for undergraduate students.

    2) Prepared a manual entitled A Guide for Senior Design Projects for EEL 4012. Completed Summer 1993. Co-authors Drs. Richie, Batarseh, and Kasparis.

    Computer Assignments:

    Developed three new computer simulation assignments for EEL 4309.

    RESEARCH

    Research Interest

    The development of high frequency power electronic systems to improve power density, efficiency and performance. The utilization of soft-switching technique in improving power factor and efficiency. Carry on the analysis and design of high frequency dc-to-dc resonant converter topologies and perform dynamic modeling and control of PWM and soft-switching converters.

    Research in Progress

    Investigation of zero-voltage-switching ac-to-dc power factor correction topologies sponsored by NASA-KSC under the STTR Program.

    Dynamic modeling of power electronic circuits used in distributed power systems sponsored by Lockheed Martin.

    Research Results

    The research results have led to the publication of fourteen IEEE Transaction papers, twelve other journals and more than 60 presentations to international and national conferences. During the last six years, ten MS Theses were supervised by me and four Ph.D. students are currently engaged in research. Moreover, four US patents have been issued. NASA, Lockheed Martin, Allied Signals Co., Incandescent Disposal Systems, Inc. and the Industry Application Society of IEEE have funded the research .
