Dr. Applegate received his Ph.D. in Criminal Justice from the University of Cincinnati and joined the faculty of the University of Central Florida in 1996. At UCF, he teaches undergraduate and master’s courses in Criminal Justice as well as doctoral courses in Criminal Justice and Public Affairs. He has published more than thirty articles on punishment and rehabilitation policy, correctional treatment, juvenile justice, public views of correctional policies, jail issues, and decision-making among criminal justice professionals. He also co-edited Offender Rehabilitation: Effective Correctional Intervention (1997, Dartmouth). He has received awards for his research from the University of Central Florida and from the Division on Corrections and Sentencing of the American Society of Criminology. Dr. Applegate has served as President of the Southern Criminal Justice Association (2006-2007), Secretary of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (2002-2004), and Director-at-Large of the Southern Criminal Justice Association (1999-2002). He is currently Associate Editor of the American Journal of Criminal Justice.
