Course Policies

Prerequisites

CNT 3004 (Computer Network Concepts) and COP 3330 (Object Oriented Programming).

Catalog Course Description

Web-Based Information Technology: Digital libraries, media formats, compression, streaming media, mobile Internet and WML (wireless markup language), emerging technologies, capacity planning for web services.

Objectives

This course provides an overview of the concepts, technology, architecture, and software that forms the basis of web-based technologies.

Required Textbook

• Practical Web Technologies, P.K. Yuen and V. Lau. Addison-Wesley. ISBN: 0-201-75076-7.

Reference Book

• Web Services: Principles and Technology. Michael P. Papazoglou. Pearson Prentice Hall. ISBN: 978-0-321-1555-9.

Grading

Exam 1 - 25%
Projects (5) – 75% - (15% each project)
A: 90% or above, B: 80 -89%, C: 70-79%, D: 60-69%; F: less than 60%.

• The exam dates will be announced in class and on Webcourses – the Course Calendar is below.
• The Final Exam is mandatory for all or a grade of “F” will be awarded.

We will be using Webcourses to post lecture slides, announcements, grades and other information related to this course. Please make sure to check Webcourses regularly (at least once per day) for any important information about the course.

Electronic Devices

Laptops, PDAs, and other mobile computing devices must be turned off during lectures and tests. Cell phones must be turned off before coming to class and absolutely no phone calls during testing.

Missed Lectures

Students are responsible for obtaining information about assignments and material covered or provided during missed lectures from other students in the course.

Make-Up Exams

No makeup exams will be given except for medical reasons with written documentation.

Late Projects

Projects must be turned in through Webcourses on the assigned day for full credit. There will be a 10% penalty for projects turned one day within the due date and time. There will be a 25% penalty for projects turned in two days within the due date and time. No projects will be accepted after two days after the Due Date.

Academic Integrity

Plagiarism and cheating of any kind on an examination, homework, project, or any other assignment will not be tolerated. It may result in an “F’ for that assignment (and can, depending on the severity of the case, lead to an “F” for the entire course). The violation may be subject to appropriate referral to the Office of Student Conduct for further action. Please refer to The Golden Rule (http://www.goldenrule.sdes.ucf.edu/) of the University of Central Florida's Student Handbook for further information.

Students With Disabilities

Students with disabilities who have special testing needs are required to contact the Student Disability Services at the beginning of the semester in order to make special testing arrangements. They are located in SRC 132 and can be reached at (407) 823-2371.

• Thanksgiving: Thursday November 27 – Saturday November 29, 2008.
• Final Exam: Thursday December 11, 2008, 10 to 1:50 pm, HEC 111
