- DISAPPOINTED IN SPECIFICS:
Collection development was too theoretical.
Cover some courses too much.
Disappointed in medical reference because basic reference--needed more obscure
resources.
Disappointed with course at IRCC; not enough terminals; some were not working.
Had a couple of bad experiences. CD-ROMs--selling not training; not prepared.
Last one was not useful because instructor was not well prepared. Non-librarian taught
and did not do as well as was needed.
Presenter at one class was not prepared. Make sure presenters are prepared.
Rehashing same stuff all the time; gearing workshops toward lowest common denominator.
The last two times signed up, the classes were canceled, but no one sent notification.
This was about a year and a half ago.
- SCHEDULING:
Do two sessions on one day to cover all her staff.
Maybe have some after work, i.e., 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 or 9:00 p.m.
Prefer full-day workshops--learn more; hope costs will be maintained; no objections to
"outside" leaders.
Saturday session would be better for her--but understands that they have to be done
during working business hours.

SUGGESTIONS
- A workshop and discussion group will be useful if and when the state completes plans to
distribute library services and resources to distance learners. This cooperative project
will involve universities, community colleges and public libraries.
- Any workshops dealing with live Internet interaction should be held in the mornings when
traffic is slower, or have a demo via other services. In the afternoon, the systems go
down or have slow response time.
- Discussions, listservs from CFLC on groups (ILL, Ref, etc.).
- Expand range of workshops. Lately not much has been of interest.
- Licensing issues; collaborative purchasing.
- Look at developing certificate based programs; to make money, put on Web page.
- Maybe better publicity.
- More advanced systems--ILL only.
- More focus groups. Less formal.
- More leadership--helping libraries to see how they are going to evolve and become
proactive. More of a coordinator role to visit to other libraries; setting up a tour for
all CFLC members. Items that focus on the value of a library. Collective buying,
purchasing power--work to increase for electronic software & hardware, etc.
- Needs more specific for law libraries.
- Offer more off-site courses in members' service areas, partner with DBCC, VCPL, and
ERAU. Hope CFLC will continue the quarterly course listings brochure. They find the
information very useful. Under Marta's [Westall] leadership, CFLC has become a very
effective, efficient and professional organization.
- Used to have social group for dinner that met once a month & it would be great.
- Workshops should be used with local people teaching.
-
COMMENTS
- CFLC fills a valuable need in training and resource sharing. Felt it was obvious that
the survey was an attempt to get more money; feels if more money is needed, it should be
through raising the dues to CFLC. Feels the dues an institution pays should be enough for
its staff to attend the CFLC workshops.
- CFLC is geared more to public and academic libraries.
- Commented on CFLC's creative and persistent efforts. Training mission of CFLC will
become more and more important and more emphasis should be placed on it.
- Marta Westall is a good director--very professional. Likes that CFLC has been adding
interesting libraries. CFLC should get more into workshops; make continuing education an
important part of being a librarian.
- No--Use Union List a lot.
- Premier source for upgrading skills.
- Where is it going in sustaining itself? Need advance warning of monetary changes for
budgetary purposes. Would like to see record loading--being charged by OCLC and maybe
CFLC; he's not sure because he hasn't been told. Not good for him because he has to know
in advance to budget for such costs.
- Workshops very good; glad classes moved down that way [St. Lucie County]. One negative
is SEFLIN Freenet, why not circ[sic]? Where is Internet and e-mail? CFLC doesn't offer
what SEFLIN does. No more access to FIRN once a month. Thanks for home page.
